Blogs I Read

I have really grown to appreciate blogging as an important (but underrated, under-appreciated) literary form. Here are some of the bloggers I think do it best:

Did I ever tell you about the time I appeared in a newspaper dating column and got stood up by the guy who was supposed to join me? No? I’m surprised. I still cry into my gin and tonic about it on a regular basis. Table Manners? Impeccable is a weekly roast of the Guardian Blind Dates blog and it does make life just that bit more bearable.

The Spike is Esther Walker’s blog about, err, stuff she likes. It is a daily read of mine. Similarly excellent is her now retired blog Recipe Rifle. She’s a genius of the form.

Beauty journalist Deanna Pai chronicles her struggles with cancer on #TheseCellsAintLoyal, she writes like a dream despite the subject matter.

Mrs Bovary at Bovary, delicious little fragments of life with beautiful illustrations.

Love London Council Housing.  I SO LOVE LONDON COUNCIL HOUSING. I wrote a PhD on it.

Miss Porch Swing. My old friend Catherine sometimes writes funny and insightful things on her blog. She doesn’t post often, but when she does it’s worth reading.
